For the first time, college students in Indiana have the opportunity to work toward their bachelor's of fine arts degrees with specialties in electronic art and animation.
Ball State University will offer the programs next fall, giving students a comprehensive experience with digital media. A master's degree program in studio art, with an emphasis in electronic art and animation, will also be available.
"The courses are already in great demand, and the information sessions have been packed with interested students and parents. With access to high-definition cameras and editing bays, the latest animation software and talented faculty and visiting artists, this is going to be a world-class program," Associate Professor of Electronic Art John Fillwalk said in a University Communications press release.
The courses will explore the intersections between art and technology. Students will not only be able to use their creativity, but they will also attain high-level digital content skills, which are in great demand in the ever-growing number of industries that use 3-D animation -- including cinema, games, interactive media, television and the Internet."
Through these new programs, students will be able to develop their skills in digital art, which involves media such as computer animation, Internet-based projects, digital imaging, virtual reality, high-definition video and interactive media. There will also be opportunities to participate in mixed, or intermedia, projects that allow artists to mix traditional styles like painting or drawing with non-traditional elements like computers.
The development of the courses was funded in part by a George and Frances Ball Academic Excellence Grant.
