TCOM professor, students study in Italy

Fourteen Ball State University students and a telecommunications professor are hitting up historical sites in Italy this summer to shoot a documentary for WIPB-TV.

Dominic Caristi, associate professor of telecommunications, is leading students around Florence, Italy, to shoot a 56-minute documentary about Brunelleschi's Dome to air in the coming year on WIPB-TV.

Caristi it teaching editing and video production as a part of the project. He is also keeping a blog about the experience at caristi.blogspot.com. In his Wednesday entry, Caristi said the students arrived in Florence to collect footage and have only faced minor problems shooting in Italy so far.

The class is part of the program run by the Kentucky Institute for International Studies consortium, of which Ball State is a member. Students from the University of Kentucky and Berea College (Ky.) are also participating in the project.

The finished product will be on DVD for colleges and high schools across the United States to use.
