FOOTBALL: Season opener to be shown on ESPN Plus

The opener for Ball State University's football season, which is to be held at the University of Iowa on Sept. 3, will be televised on ESPN Plus, but Ball State fans in Muncie might not be able to see the game.

In order for the game to be seen in Muncie, it must be picked up by the Indianapolis outlet station, WTTV.

The game between the Cardinals and the defending Big Ten Conference Co-Champions, the Hawkeyes, is one of 24 appearances by Mid-American Conference schools on one of ESPN's five channels during the upcoming season. The Cardinals' game against Iowa is the only one scheduled for them to appear on an ESPN station.

Twenty-one of the 24 appearances by MAC schools are regular-season games, while the other three are post-season matchups, including the MAC championship game on Dec. 1, the GMAC Bowl on Dec. 21 and the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26.

Among those 21 regular-season games, nine will be conference games, including games involving four of the conference's top teams last season -- Miami at Northern Illinois on Oct. 5, Bowling Green at Miami on Nov. 15 and Northern Illinois at Toledo on Nov. 16. Recently added Temple visits Wisconsin on Sept. 10, and that game will be televised on ESPNU/ESPN Plus.

Eight games against Big Ten schools will also be aired.

Central Michigan will play host to Indiana University in the first televised game.
