Ball State University and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have narrowed their searches for three men's basketball teams to play in the CoSIDA Classic for the 2005-06 season.
Three teams -- Marist, Stetson, and Tennessee-Martin -- have the most interest in playing in the tournament, which will be held at Worthen Arena from Nov. 18 to 20. None of the teams have signed a contract to play in the tournament, but they are expected to by the end of June.
The teams were confirmed by Chris Taylor, Ball State's Director of Electronic Media and Gameday Experience. All three teams finished their 2004-05 seasons with losing records. Marist finished the season 11-17; Stetson went 10-17; and Tennessee-Martin ended 6-21.
Each team will play three games over the three-day tournament. The competition, which is considered a preseason exempt tournament by the NCAA, will count as one game on each team's schedule.
This will be the first CoSIDA Classic since 2000, when it was discontinued after three years of existence. The tournament opens the Cardinals' basketball season and occurs the same weekend as the football season wraps up at home.
