WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Endress cut from Sun's training camp

Former Ball State University women's basketball player Kate Endress was cut from the Connecticut Sun's training camp roster on April 29.

Endress had signed a free-agent contract with the Sun and was one of 11 players invited to the camp. Five players, including Endress, were cut to trim the team's roster to 16. The final cut to 12 will be made on May 20.

"Obviously, I was really excited for her to have the opportunity," Tracy Roller, Ball State women's basketball head coach, said. "I was just proud that she had the chance. She had the opportunity to play on a pro team, which most college players don't."

Endress finished her career at Ball State as only the second woman and one of only four players -- male or female -- to score over 1,800 points in a career. She finished with 1,843 points and 663 rebounds, making her one of only three Ball State basketball players to finish with over 1,800 points and 600 rebounds.

She left Ball State with top-ten rankings in several categories, finishing with the most career field goals made (1,553) and a tie for the most games played (120).

During her senior season, Endress led the Mid-American Conference with an 18.5 points-per-game average and led the Cardinals in minutes averaged at 33.8. She also finished second in rebounds (6.3) for the Cards.

Endress was the second Ball State women's basketball player to have been given the chance to play in the Women's National Basketball Association. Tamara Bowie was the 36th pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics.
