AAF takes second consecutive district win

Ball State University's student chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) walked away a winner at the District 6 National Student Advertising Competition April 22 in Detroit.

Fifteen other teams from colleges in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois also participated in the district competition.

It was Ball State's second win in as many years and the first time in more than 10 years that the same AAF chapter has won two competitions in a row, Michael Hanley said in a press release. Hanley is an advertising instructor at Ball State and was also the chapter's faculty advisor.

Each team created a 32-page advertising campaign for Yahoo! as part of the competition. This contained research, media selection, strategy and creative ads for nine of Yahoo!'s online services and products.

Ball State placed 12th in the national competition in 2004, which happens after the district competition. This year's national competition -- on June 5 and 6 in Nashville, Tenn. -- will be the team's next stop. The national competition gives college students the chance to present their campaigns to a panel of industry executives.
