WOMEN'S TENNIS Ball State hopes to play outside for first time

Ball State comes home for the final time in the Mid-American Conference regular season this weekend when it hosts Toledo and Eastern Michigan. The team (12-4, 2-1 MAC) is on the road for the final four matches.

"We're looking forward to it," coach Kathy Bull said. "And, hey, we may get lucky and play outside. We'd be very thrilled to play outside a couple days."

Ball State has recently been named the host of the MAC Championship, but has yet to have a competition outdoors.

"Being outside is very important," Bull said. "Being outside on our home court is probably secondary. If you don't get some playing time outside, you don't have any home-court advantage at home.

"Everyone has been kind of struggling against the weather. We're hoping to be able to jump ahead of the whole situation a bit."

Meanwhile, the Cardinals continue to practice outdoors despite the high winds and inclement weather.

The Cardinals dropped a 4-3 decision to Buffalo last weekend at home. The Cardinals will be looking to take some of the pain from that loss out on the Rockets.

"With Toledo, we expect a very good, sound challenge," Bull said. "They have good players on top of the lineup, and they play at times with big momentum swings. We really have to shut them down.

"Saturday is still stinging for a lot of us. I'm [looking forward] to being here at home and put a good sound effort on the court to get that victory over Toledo."

After facing Toledo, the Cardinals will move to face Eastern Michigan (4-9, 2-2 MAC), which is led by No. 65 Victoria Domina. The Eagles are coming off a 5-2 loss to Miami, but their other MAC loss came at the hands of No. 67 Marshall.
