The Ball State men's volleyball team faces a long weekend with three home matches against Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association teams.
"Our team really needs to take advantage of being at home this weekend," head coach Joel Walton said. "We're still looking for a big win."
The Cardinals (11-12, 6-4 MIVA) have seven matches left before the MIVA tournament, and five of them take place at Worthen Arena. Walton said he set up the schedule to have more home matches at the end of the season than the beginning to give the team momentum headed into the tournament.
BSU hopes to start that momentum tonight against No. 12 Ohio State (16-6, 92 MIVA). Ohio State ranks second in the MIVA, while Ball State is tied with IPFW for fourth.
The Cards will need a strong offense to get past the Buckeyes' defense, Walton said. Lead-scorer Nick Meyer continues to suffer from a sprained ankle and is questionable to play this weekend, he said.
However, outside attackers Luis Castera and Evan Berg have had a strong week in practice.
"Luis seems to be doing pretty well on right side," Walton said. "Evan really has given us what he's given us all year long, and that's steady play."
Ball State will have to maintain energy to compete against Quincy (7-13, 3-9 MIVA) at 7 p.m. Saturday and Mercyhurst (8-9, 4-8 MIVA) at 2 p.m. Sunday.
"All three teams are very good teams," Walton said. "I hope to see our guys focused and aggressive all weekend long."
