Like the previous two spring games during Brady Hoke's tenure, Saturday's 12 p.m. Cardinal-White game will be a situational scrimmage as opposed to a full game, Hoke said.
The third-year coach said he would like to run about 60-80 plays. The No. 1 and No. 2 offenses will face their defensive counterparts. At quarterback, junior Joey Lynch will take the majority of snaps for the No. 1 offense plays, with sophomore Cole Stinson and redshirt freshman Warren Suess taking about 10 snaps each.
Lynch gave way to Stinson after three games last year before regaining the job for the final three games.
"That's a heated competition," Hoke said. "Joey will probably be our No. 1 quarterback going into the fall, but Suess has really closed the gap at No. 2."
At tailback, with Adell Givens -- 2004 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year -- having left the program, Hoke said that fifth-year senior Charles Wynn has grabbed the top spot, with freshman B.J. Hill backing up.
Wynn was Givens' backup in 2004, and Hill enrolled at Ball State this semester after attending Fork Union Academy.
"He really has picked up things," Hoke said of Hill. "He's an exciting runner and has a great burst."
On defense, middle linebacker Brad Seiss and cornerback Ryan Patrick are among the players Hoke singled out for their strong performance over spring practice.
