MEN'S BASKETBALL Cards to open with home tournament

Ball State will open the 2005-06 men's basketball season by hosting the four team CoSIDA Tournament in Worthen Arena.

The tournament will be Nov. 18-20. Sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was first played in 1998 but was discontinued in 2000. Previous hosts are Providence, New Mexico and North Carolina.

As host of the tournament, Ball State is responsible for finding three schools to complete the field. Each team will play against other three schools over the three-day period.

The CoSIDA Tournament is an exempt tournament, meaning NCAA allows for schools to participate in two over a four-year period. The three games will count as just one game toward the 27-game schedule, though. Ball State played in exempt tournaments in 2001 (Maui Invitational in Hawaii) and 2002 (Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska).
