Dear Editor,
Comment: Robb Haywood's March 14 article is a complete distortion of the facts. Mr. Haywood claims that the Muncie Star Press is somehow controlled by the Republican Party. I am guessing from this statement that Mr. Haywood has not lived very long in Muncie. As a life-long resident of Delaware County, I can tell you that, if anything, the Star Press has been blatant in its support of local and state Democrats year after year. The reason why the paper has changed its tune is not due to some far-fetched idea that "The Star Press is in the pocket of Mitch Daniels and the Republican Party," as Mr. Haywood stated in his article. Instead, it is because of the disappointing actions of the Democrats in our state and how they turned their backs on Indiana. For a newspaper to be fair and unbiased does not mean that it has to say positive things about each side in an issue. There was nothing positive about the Democratic walkout. It was an action that subverted the legitimacy of the entire legislative process and killed dozens of bills designed to help Hoosiers. This is not the picture that Mr. Haywood wants to see, so instead he points fingers and says that the Star Press is biased. I, on the other hand, commend the Star Press for the great coverage that they have given the legislative process, and for showing people of this county what the Democratic Party really stands for.
