BASEBALL Two BSU players honores by conferance

Two Ball State players earned Mid-American Conference West honors for their efforts in this weekend's series against Oakland. Redshirt freshman Ben Snyder was named pitcher of the week, while senior left fielder Marc Franz was named player of the week.

In addition, Snyder was one of six players named "Louisville Slugger" National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. Snyder shut out Oakland in a 4-0 Ball State win Saturday. He struck out 14 batters and allowed just three hits in a complete-game effort (seven innings) for his first career victory. The 14 strikeouts were the most for a Ball State pitcher since former-No. 1 overall draft pick Bryan Bullington tallied 15 on May 3, 2002.

On the season, Snyder is 1-3 with a 5.83 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.

Franz batted .615 over the four-game series, including a 4-for-4 performance Sunday, along with five RBI and four runs. The senior leads the team with a .397 average this season, with 27 hits in 18 games. He also has 13 RBI and 13 runs this season.
