MEN'S SWIMMING Cards travel to Buffalo for duel

Team returns to pool after month off from competition

The Ball State men's swimming and diving team travels to Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday to face the Bulls.

This marks the first time the Cardinals will be in competition since their loss to Michigan State a month ago. "We are very hungry to get back into competition and continue to grow as a team," co-head coach Bob Thomas said.

The last time the Cards and Bulls met was in Akron at the Zippy Invitational at the beginning of December. The Ball State men's team took second of eight, while the Bulls took fourth.

"Buffalo has a great diver, so it is something we are definitely worried about," co-head coach Laura Siebold-Caudill said. "However, we have three great divers in Ryan Plantz, Paul Whitaker, and Caleb Bye (who just recently transferred from Clemson), so if we dive real well and consistently, we will definitely be able to beat them."

Some other keys for Ball State will be in the individual medley, backstroke and the breaststroke. BSU and Buffalo swimmers have averaged the same times for these three events all season.

"Whoever wins the best of those three events will more than likely win the meet," Thomas said. "We are just going to have to go out there and swim harder than them if we want to win in Buffalo."
