Ball State athlete in car accident

Women’s basketball junior Dana Collins was in a car accident Saturday before the team played Central Michigan.

She is being held overnight at the New Castle hospital. Collins was on her way to the Cardinals' shoot around from her home in New Castle.

Head coach Tracy Roller said she got a call Saturday at 8:30 a.m. informing her of the accident.

“I’ve talked to Dana and she’s in good spirits but, hopefully, I’ll get a chance to go see her today or tomorrow,” Roller said. “All of our thoughts are with her right now.”

Collins was battling an injury before the accident and it was unsure whether she would have played against Central Michigan or not. She has played in just seven games this season, averaging 5.3 points, but has missed the past six.

The Cardinals did defeat the Central Michigan 81-78 in double overtime on Saturday.
