WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Ball State hopes road trip ends losing skid

Evansville game a homecoming for senior Kate Endress

The women's basketball team goes on the road looking to put an end to a four-game losing streak. Ball State (2-4) will play the Saint Louis Billikins (1-5) on Friday and the Evansville Purple Aces (3-1) on Sunday.

The Cardinals lost their last contest against Indiana State 76-42 after scoring only 14 points in the second half. The team had Sunday and Monday of this week off and have been working on second-half execution in practice and also breaking down film on an individual basis.

"We do really good things, and then there's possessions in the second half where we just don't execute," head coach Tracy Roller said. "That's what we've been focusing on since we've got back from those two days off is just executing."

The trip to Evansville will be a homecoming for lone senior Kate Endress, who is leading the team in scoring with 15 points per game.

"I've got to give kudos to coach (Duffy) Burns, who pushed really hard to schedule Evansville during my senior year," Endress said. "I'm very excited."

Endress said it's a good opportunity for friends and family that can't make the trip to Muncie to see her play.

"I think more then anything the team wants to win for Kate," Roller said. "It's really her first homecoming."

While the game in Evansville means a lot to Endress, she is looking forward to Saint Louis because she thinks the team has something to prove.

"Even more so than going home this weekend, I'm excited to get back on the court and just prove to people that we are a good team," Endress said.

Saint Louis is also a young team (it starts four freshman), so Roller thinks it will be a good matchup for the Cards.

"I feel good about it; we're practicing well," Roller said. "This weekend is very important for us as a team to get back on track."

Evansville on the other hand should prove to be a good test for the Cardinals. They are ranked 13th in the country in steals per game with an average of 14.8 per game. Senior Alissa Kirby is also one of the nations top five three-point shooters. She averages 3.25 per game and that should concern the Cardinals because they give up 7.3 per game.

Roller said the team is taking one game at a time, so its focus is mainly on Saint Louis, but beyond that it's on themselves.

"Honestly, more so than Evansville or Saint Louis, we're just thinking about us and just trying to get back to playing great ball," she said.
