Student Government Association Senate sent legislation creatingfour seats in the organizational caucus to President Ben TietzWednesday.
The legislation, which passed with 28 votes for it and sixagainst it, also ends the deadline for organizational groups toapply to Senate.
The organizational caucus had been the only one that could nothave applications throughout the year. The legislation also sets upa process for the removal of organizations, which have permanentseats in the senate.
"I'm really thrilled the legislation got passed," Steve Geraci, president pro tempore and co-author of the legislation, said.
The legislation allows more organizations to be involved in theSenate, Geraci said.
"We would love to see a flood of organizations," he said."They're really going to have to prove to us how theirorganizations isn't represented, though."
Organizations must collect 500 signatures and prove to SGA theirneeds are not being met in SGA.
The legislation needs Tietz's approval for SGA to startaccepting applications from groups, though.
Tietz said he was not sure how he felt about the legislation andwould make a decision by next week.
The legislation stipulates that organizations submit anapplication to the credentials board and then be interviewed by theboard. Tietz said he was concerned because the legislation did notsay what process the credentials board was to go through or whatquestions to ask when interviewing organizations.
If Tietz passes the legislation, any organization recognized byBall State can start the application process.
