Ball State quarterback Joey Lynch found ways to get numerousplayers involved in the passing game in Saturday's overtime loss toNorthern Illinois.
While 13 of Lynch's 31 completions went to junior DanteRidgeway, a season-high nine players caught passes for theCardinals.
Ridgeway, who had 114 yards and one touchdown, has caught 10 ormore passes in the last five games and topped 100 yards the lastsix.
Ridgeway now has 90 receptions on the year, breaking his ownschool record of 88 last season. He also broke his own record ofreceiving yards of 1,075, with 1,103 this season and is theschool's only receiver to have two 1,000-yard seasons.
Ridgeway's outstanding stats have made him a finalist for theBiletnikoff Award, given to the nation's best wide receiver.
True freshmen wideout Dan Dunford was second in receivingSaturday, with five catches for 40 yards, both season-highs.
Sophomores Bryan Williamson and Terry Moss were right behindDunford. Williamson caught four passes for 26 yards and Moss caughtthree passes for nine.
Williamson and Moss are second and third, respectively, on theteam in receptions. Williamson has 16 receptions for 108 yards andMoss has 12 receptions for 105 yards.
Tailback Adell Givens had two catches, while sophomores BrentonMartin, Brad Salyer and Michael Steinhaus each had one for theCards.
GIVENS STILL GOOD
Givens rushed for 136 yards on 35 carries, his fourth game in arow with over 100 yards. Before that game, Ball State had just one100-yard rusher in 17 games since all-time leading rusher MarcusMerriweather finished his career in 2002.
The 35 attempts marked a career-high, topping his 28 againstBowling Green two weeks earlier.
Givens, who was not available to the media, is now third in theMid-American Conference with 816 yards. The Ball State freshmanrushing record is 1,004 yards, set by Bernie Parmalee.
