After taking a week off, Ball State is welcoming eight teamsfrom around the Midwest for the Ball State Fall Invitational.Mid-American Conference foes Northern Illinois and Miami will joinDayton, IUPUI, IPFW, Butler, UW, Milwaukee and Wright State for thefive-flighted tournament.
"We're all looking forward to playing at home," coach Kathy Bullsaid. "I think that's obvious. People are getting a bit stronger,and I hope we can get a couple things done this weekend."
The Cardinals are spread out between the flights, with JennyBatty in the top flight, Jennifer Pollack and Jessica Thompson inFlight B, Haly Calderwood and Katie Owens in Flight C withStephanie Farrar, Allison Thompson and Beth Campus rounding out thefield for BSU.
In doubles some be trying some new teams at the Fall Invite inorder to see who has the chemistry needed to be a doubles teamduring the regular season, according to Bull. Batty and JessicaThompson, Farrar and Pollack, Calderwood and Allison Thompson andOwens and Campus will be the teams competing this weekend.
"I think Jessica Thompson is ready to take another step," Bullsaid. "Halley Calderwood gets stronger every day in practice,Jennifer Pollack is improving. I would say Stephanie Farrar butwe've had an injury problem.
"We have two players with pretty bad shin splints, and wehaven't been able to work her our much. They haven't been workingout this week because we don't want anything to turn into a stressfracture. We're going to go out, hopefully get some big things thisweekend."
The invite will be the Cardinals second event of the fall, whichfunctions as the off season for the team. The main purpose is toget players some practice in game situations, and work out lineupissues.
The Cardinals will compete on Friday and Saturday at CardinalCreek and Muncie Northside at various times throughout the day.
