The 30-year story of a Ball State organization will be toldthrough a series of discussions and performances. The week ofevents is a part of PROUD Week, which is People Respecting OurUnique Differences Week, sponsored by Spectrum. Spectrum is BallState's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allied studentsorganization. This year's theme is "History, Herstory, Yourstory,Ourstory."
The week begins with comedian Ant, from the television show LastComic Standing, at 7 p.m. in Pruis Hall. The event is co-sponsoredthe University Programming Board. The event is $5 for BSU studentsand $10 for non-students.
On Saturday night, the group will have its annual fall dragshow, "As Time Drags On..." at 7 p.m. in Ball Gym. Admission isfree, but donations for the participants are welcomed. All proceedswill go to the Human Rights Campaign.
An Open Mic Night will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at mt cup in theVillage.
The following evening, the group is presenting "Our Story: ALiving Wax Museum of GLBT History," at 7 p.m. in Cardinal Hall. Itis an interactive dramatic production that gives students thechance to experience important events in GLBT history, Anita Brown,Spectrum president, said. There will be vignettes of events such asthe Stonewall Riots, which was a series of violent conflict betweenpolice officers and patrons of a gay bar in New York City in 1969.They will also portray Matthew Shepard, a college student who wastortured and murdered because he was gay.
Spectrum's 30th birthday party will be observed with thecreation of a time capsule. It will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday inCardinal Hall.
On Wednesday night, a speaker panel made up of former andcurrent members of Spectrum will look back into the group's originand plans for the future in "Past, Present Future: The History ofSpectrum." The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Teacher'sCollege room 101.
Keynote speaker for the week will be Eric Marcus, who is anauthor and journalist who addresses the myths and misconceptionsabout homosexuality through his work. He will speak at 7 p.m.Thursday in Cardinal Hall.
The week ends with a UPD co-sponsored event with the showing ofthe Rocky Horror Picture Show at 11:59 p.m. in L.A. Pittenger BallRoom.
"I hope that people will be thoroughly amazed that anorganization like this was even thought about 30 years ago," Brownsaid.
