SOCCER: Cardinals grab fourth-consecutive victory

A lucky bounce against Mid-American Conference rival Miami onSunday gave Ball State its fourth win in a row and fifth in thelast six games.

Dee Nocero sent a corner kick to the goal line in the 31stminute on Sunday, where it bounced off a Miami defender and intothe net. It was the game's lone goal and gave the Cardinals (10-2-4overall, 5-2-4 MAC) their second win of the weekend.

Ball State also played IPFW at home Friday. First half goals byDee Nocero and Gretchen Echelbarger resulted in a 2-0 win for theCards. Kate Nadalin found Nocero for the first goal, just fourminutes in. Nocero slipped behind Mastadons' goalkeeper ShannonLynn for her fifth goal of the season on the play.

On Echelbarger's goal, Beth Meyer blasted a shot which Lynnstopped, but the resulting rebound found the foot of Echelbargerand then the back of the net.

Ball State held a 16-5 shot advantage, and 8-5 shots-on-goaladvantage against the Mastadons. Against Miami, the Cardinals helda 14-8 shot advantage, including 9-4 in shots on goal.

Cardinals goalie Alison Becker stopped all eight shots she facedover the weekend, giving her eight shutouts for the season,including six for wins.

With two more wins under their belt, the Cardinals findthemselves in third place in the MAC with three games remaining.Meanwhile, Miami -- which has lost four in a row and five of itslast six -- finds itself fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. TheRedHawks sit in eighth place, the last seed for the tournament.
