OUR VIEW: Middletown politics

AT ISSUE: Two gubernatorial candidates to stop in Muncie today

Ball State is just a hint over the norm in the politicalcategory today.

From what could be Indiana's "every vote counts" election,Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Kenn Gividen and Republicanincumbent Joe Kernan will both be paying visits to BSU today.

Although purely coincidental, each of their visits to Muncieshould say something about the value of the city topoliticians.

Before you start laughing, hear us out.

Sure, Muncie may not be the most scenic, mostpolitically-diverse or most economically-driven city in thestate.

It really may not be much of anything.

Obviously, though, two candidates have seen the value in Muncie,Ball State and those citizens who call either "home."

And using our deductive reasoning, it can be said that there'svalue in the community.

Such a community is defined by its people and the times in whichthey live. Residents put the character into a city, not the otherway around.

That said, it should be considered a compliment when not one,but two gubernatorial candidates take the time to make Muncie astop on their preelection campaign trails... whether literally"campaigning" or not.

So, if you get the chance, Mr. or Ms. Voter, make yourself knownwhile they are in town. You'll be glad you did, and they'll be evenhappier to see you.

Because, believe it or not, Muncie matters.
