NBA: Pacers game draws big crowd

Worthern Arena roared to life last night as 9,123 people packedin to watch the Indiana Pacers face the Washington Wizards.

Local families, students and Pacers fans packed the arena towatch the Pacers defeat the Wizards in exciting fashion 85-84.

"[The crowd is] not as big as I thought it would be. I mean,it's the Pacers," sophomore Danielle Longoria said, nearly drownedout by the crowd. "They're pretty loud though, aren't they?"

Longoria came as part of a large group of Pi Beta Phi sisterswho attended the game as part of a group outing. She stood with hersophomore sorority sister Liz Langowski in hopes of getting LarryBird's signature.

While it was not the largest crowd in Worthern Arena history, itwas obviously a very different crowd. The crowd of 9,123 wasimpressive for Worthern, but well short a 11,500 capacitycrowd.

"We have been very busy tonight," Beth Davis, who was workingthe concession stand near aisle nine, said. "We haven't had lineslike we have tonight in a really long time."

Davis also said that the crowd, while not larger than the crowdsfor the bigger Ball State game, seemed to go for more concessionsfor the Pacers game. The increase in concession runs may be becauseof the different makeup of the crowd.

"It really has been a lot of families tonight," Davis said.

While families may have been the primary makeup of the largecrowd, Ball State students did come out for the game.

"It's a good time, a good deal to see an NBA game for $5,"senior Steve Samuel said. "It's good to see a full house. I hopemore students will come out to Ball State games, this is a greatplace to watch basketball."

Samuel said he could remember Ball State games with largercrowds, but said they were few and far between.

"I think the Butler game two years ago was pretty crowded,"Samuel said. "But it's only been like this a couple times, probably."

While Samuel considers himself a Bulls fan, he still enjoyedhimself at the game tonight.

"It was just a good deal and a good time," he said.
