I've been asked to use my 400 words to discuss our generation'sinvolvement with voting. In fact, I was asked to discuss "The voteand you." Now, I'm not really sure what that means, so I guesswe're just going to dive into this together.
I'm sure if you attended high school in the United States youknow plenty about the Electoral College and the how the votebreakdown works. If not, climb out from behind that rock you'vebeen living under and grab a copy of the DN papers from earlierthis week. We also know that no matter what happens, George W. Bushwill be receiving eleven electoral votes from Indiana thisyear.
As typical college students we don't have much time to spendeducating ourselves about the issues and the candidates. We seewhat the media tells us, but what angle you see depends on whichchannel you're watching. Take a few minutes while you're in Brackenand check out a few Websites to find out what you need to know. Ipromise it doesn't take that long. And while we're at it, let'shave some fun.
As a fairly moderate individual, I get a huge kick out of thecampaign practices that have taken place throughout the course ofthis election. This year, we have a plethora of interestingWebsites and consumer products that have surfaced. Take forexample:
- www.johnkerryisadouchebagbutimvotingforhimanyway.com
What a great concept. No one is arguing that G-Dubs is veryintelligent (himself included), but he does have strong convictionswhich can be a very reassuring characteristic during wartime. Andwe all know that John Kerry isn't George Bush. Which is all ittakes for those that are sick of the shenanigans of the currentadministration.
If you need another reason to vote, check out www.votergasm.org.It's a Website devoted to getting people to the poles on November2nd, in a very unique way. Who knows, you could be an Americanhero. No, seriously, check it out and you'll get the reference.
Hopefully you will enjoy the Websites I suggested as much as Idid. If you just want to get information about voting andcandidates, visit the following Websites:
- www.indystar.com/news/elections - Statewide information
- www.voteindiana.com -- When, where and how to vote
- www.factcheck.org -- A bipartisan organization that keeps thecandidates in check
If you're like me, you spend needless hours every week surfingthe Web. So why not spend that time educating yourself about theupcoming election?
