FIELD HOCKEY Kent offense too much in rout of BSU

Ball State was unable to sustain Kent State's offensivefirepower Friday, losing its first Mid-American Conference game ofthe season, 5-1.

The loss dropped Ball State (3-8, 3-1 MAC) a half-game back fromfirst place in the conference after Louisville (4-1 MAC) trouncedMiami, 7-0. Kent State (5-6, 3-1) is also a half-game back with itswin.

It took little time for the Kent State offense to get rolling,registering two goals within the first six minutes of the game. LizFettrow scored the first the first her of two goals 4:19 into thegame. Kent State struck again 1:30 later, making the game 2-0.

The lone goal on the day for the Cardinals came from sophomoreCarla Chiampi, six minutes into the second half. She was assistedon the play by the team's leading scorer, Lindsay Quay.

The goal by Chiampi narrowed the deficit to 2-1, but that was asclose the Cards would get. Fettrow answered for the Golden Flashesless than three minutes later with her second goal in the game.Fettrow also added an assist on the next Kent goal to furtherhighlight her day.

Ball State goalkeeper Tracy Bannister recorded three saves inthe loss, which dropped her record to 3-5 on the year.

The Golden Flashes outshot the Cardinals 15-10, but thedifference was that Kent was able to finish five of the 15 shotsfor goals. The Cards outdrew Kent seven to six on penaltycorners.

Ball State continues on the road as it faces MAC foe Ohio todayat 1 p.m.
