WOMEN'S GOLF: Team finishes fourth at Eastern Kentucky

The three rounds of golf that the BSU Women's Golf team playedat Eastern Kentucky this weekend were arguably the high point inthe Katherine Mowat tenure as coach thus far. Ball State finishedfourth in the 11-team meet that was hosted by EKU and held inRichmond, Kentucky.

Pacing the way for BSU in terms of individual scoring was KatieSundberg. She shot a 79-79-75-233 to tie for 10th place, eightstrokes behind Kentucky's Erin Faulkner, the top finisher. Alsohelping out the Cards' cause was Chelsea Flannery (80-75-83-238),who had a solid second round to aid her score. Julie Harder, atransfer from Nebraska, shot a 77-82-82-241 and managed to tie for26th place. Amber Uphaus (79-78-85-242) finished in a tie for 28th.Rounding out the team score was Carmen Bodine (84-81-78-243), whofinished 33rd. Playing individually was Holly Jones, who shot a81-86-87-254.

As a team, Ball State (315-313-318-946) finished fourth behindthe junior varsity team of the University of Kentucky. TheCardinals team score fell 30 strokes behind the Wildcats. Alsofinishing ahead of BSU were host Eastern Kentucky and MAC rivalOhio. Ball State finished 16 strokes behind EKU and 14 away fromthe Bobcats of Ohio.

The high place this weekend should give some momentum to BSU asthey prepare for their final meet of the 2004 fall schedule. Afterplaces of 13th (out of 17) at Notre Dame and fifth (out of 17)during the Cardinal Classic, Mowat's squad put their highestconsistent score of the season. Ball State's final meet this fallwill be October 8-10 at Florida International.
