I've decided my generation isn't going to grow up. My generationrefers to anyone that was a teen during the '80s. Yeah, I'm anon-traditional student...the one in class that needs thingsrepeated because my brain works a little slower than an 18-year-oldfreshman. OK, it doesn't really work that slow but my friends and Ijoke about my age frequently because I don't act my age very often. That's OK, though, because you're only as old as you feel, right?
That brings me back to the not-growing-up thing. I have GameShowNetwork on and I'm watching Extreme Dodgeball ( I have to admitI'm distracted during the action and writing during thecommercials). How cool is it that they made a game of one personblasting another person with a spherical object into a televisionshow? And, by the way, have you seen the teams on this show? Quitehumorous, really. I can't help but feel like picking up a ball andthrowing it at someone with all my might when I watch this show. It's almost the replacement of roller derby or "AmericanGladiators" from "my day." Almost.
It is also my generation that decided people's lives shouldbecome prime-time entertainment. I see this as living vicariouslythrough other people. I actually don't enjoy the reality shows thatare so popular, but that's OK; most of you do. It strikes me in anodd way that people I went to high school with (on the grand scaleof graduating year, not my little town high school) are the peoplecreating these shows. When you're in high school, you think of theexecutives of networks as a group of "gray-haired suits" ruling theworld of fantasy. Then, you get into your thirties and realize itisn't that extreme. They are people your age and suddenly thatisn't so old.
And why are the teachers of this day and age so much betterlooking than when I was in high school? I've been at Ball State forfive years now, and the people in the teaching major are muchbetter looking than any teachers I had. I had great teachers, theyjust weren't the kind of people David Lee Roth has in his "Hot forTeacher" video like they are in real life now. The times, they area-changin'...
By the way, the Extreme Dodgeball was in the semi-finalsfollowed by the finals. The trophy was a large hand holding a balland it went to the
Certified Public Assasins. Yay.
