The Dynasty takes second victory lap around mud ring

For the second consecutive year, The Dynasty wonBotsford/Swinford's annual Mud Volleyball tournament.

"We'll be back for a third," CJ Millniner, team member of TheDynasty, said.

The team won against B-town and Company. Team members fromB-town and Company were also on last year's second place team.

"We got a couple of new players that are taller, and the girlsplayed volleyball in high school," James Liechty, B-town andCompany team captain, said.

One hundred and twenty-eight teams participated in the 17thannual Mud Volleyball tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Teams were required to have six members on the court at alltimes with two players from each sex. Sororities and WoodworthHall's residents could play as single-sex teams. Also, each teamhad to volunteer four hours to the event.

Volunteers worked as line judges, score keepers, or they didother duties such as setup, mud-mixing and cleanup.

The entry fee was $25 per team along with a $10 sportsmanshipfee that can be waived if the team serves the necessary volunteerhours and plays with sportsmanship.

The money raised went to two local charities, A Better Way andBeds and Britches.

Preparation for Mud Volleyball started in March 2004.

Stacy Ploskonka, chair of the Mud Volleyball committee said, "Wehad a lot of people come out this year, probably more than lastyear."

Ploskonka said the committee prepares in March by orderingshirts and requesting space, so that they can focus on getting outapplications and publicity when school starts in the fall.

"I'll definitely be part of this next year," Robert "Andy"Blough, co-chair for the event committee, said.

Blough said that he regrets not partaking in the festivitiesduring his first year at Ball State.

"There is no way I'm missing this again," he said.

Austin Martin, team captain of The Dynasty, said that he learnedabout Mud Volleyball at orientation.

"It looked like something fun to do, and we found we had a knackfor it too," he said.

Trevor Verba, a member of The Dynasty, said that he enjoysplaying volleyball, especially in the mud.

"Mud is the Indiana way to do it," he said. "It's the Muncieway."
