LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Students behavior at Boston College game disrespectful

This Thursday at the football game, I was very excited toexperience the first game of the season in a packed stadium. Infact, I was so excited that I lost my voice after the firstquarter. However, a great deal of my enjoyment was quelled by thehorrible behavior of the student section. Notice how I neglect tomention the word fan. A fan does not demean the visiting team bysingling out players, yelling obscenities at referees and throwingthings from the stands. We should show more class by cheeringlouder for Ball State, staying the entire game and respectingeveryone on the field. In addition to this, Ball State footballgames are so much more than just another chance to party. It is anopportunity for Ball State to show other colleges and universitieswhat we're all about. On Thursday, we left Boston College with anunnecessarily poor impression. We need to realize that most of thetime, our disrespect is counterproductive. Honestly, I believe thatour chants and projectiles fueled BC's fire. After all, they didwin the game. We must, as fans, learn how to lose respectfully andstart preparing ourselves for next week. At the next home gameagainst Western Michigan, I challenge the spectators to act liketrue fans.
