After investing several years here, I have come to find that my"b.s.-ing" skills are vastly improving with age. I would like tosay that it is a result of gaining more knowledge so that I am ableto expand upon topics that arise, but I feel that it is more theperception that people have when evaluating various ideas andinquiries.

I believe that there is a large amount of people that care moreabout aesthetics and "flare" than the actual content of themessage. I don't blame these people solely, for I feel that themedia also has contributed to this way of thinking. For a mediaexample, many advertisements show exciting bursts of color, sound, and imagery to entice their potential customers. Even though thewhole commercial could be deemed entirely irrelevant to what thecompany is actually selling, somehow, it works as a strategy toattract more revenues through sales. This I believe has caused agreater emphasis on what is seen, as opposed to what is.

For a more personal example, I applied to several differentorganizations throughout my college career. I consider my self apretty tasky person, in that I state what I think needs to be saidand then I am done. I do not wish to waste their time, or my own.Such a case happened when I applied to be a part of a group. Ilisted qualities and activities that I have done while here at BallState in bullet format. I did not get in. The next semester, Ilisted the same traits but in a three page essay. The same contentand yet different results. Much to my surprise, I was welcomed intothe organization, and from that point, I lost a great deal ofrespect for the group and several people within it.

The point that I am trying to make is this. I hope and trustthat as you evaluate an application, article, advertisement, ormuch of anything for that matter, that you look at the big picture.Look for the answers that you so specifically asked for. Don'tbecome masked by all the "fluff" that gets shoved into differentthings. Do not succumb to the B.S. that has become so prevalent intoday's society.
