FOOTBALL Knee injury ends Bostic's season

Senior Scott Blair will start for rest of the season

Ball State was not only blown out Saturday by intrastate rivalPurdue, but the Cardinals starting tailback blew out his knee.

Larry Bostic, who ran for a career-high 76 yards in the 59-7defeat, injured his right knee on his 19th carry, a 2-yard loss.The unspecified ligament damage will keep the junior out for theseason.

Bostic's injury occured when he planted his leg, attempting tomake a cutback. He was aided off the field and went to thelockerroom on crutches.

Bostic, a running back in high school, played receiver his firsttwo years at BSU, catching 61 passes for 677 yards. Coaches movedhim to tailback in the spring hoping to provide a spark to theCards' languishing ground game. He ran for 38 yards in the seasonopener against Boston College.

With Bostic out, senior Scott Blair is slated to start, withtrue freshman Adell Givens backing up. Blair the starter lastseason and the team's most experienced back, has five carries for14 yards. Givens has rushed for 60 yards on 15 attempts.

Backup quarterback Casey Gillen seperated his right shoulder onthe same drive, and is out for at least three weeks. True freshmanCole Stinson will be the No. 2 quarterback to sophomore JoeyLynch.
