CROSS COUNTRY Cards meet Hoosiers again at Indiana Intercollegiate

Team has won both its meets, including one-point win at IU

Ball State will face the No. 27 Indiana for the second week in a row this weekend, and, for the second week in a row, the Cardinals will look to upset the Hoosiers.

The Cards, who are coming off their one point win over IU last weekend, will once again face the Hoosiers, while adding Purdue to the mix this weekend as they travel to West Lafayette.

"We've just continued to train hard," coach Sue Parks said. "We've been working on getting our top five runners closer together, and hopefully that will carry over into the race."

While Ball State beat the Hoosiers last weekend, Parks said her team will have to be even better this weekend to win their third straight.

"I thnk it's going to be a bit tougher than last weekend," she said. "It's a whole new race on a different course. Both teams are going to be tough to beat. Were going to face some really tough competition and I feel any of the three teams an win."

Jill Scully is expected to once again lead the team. Scully finished second at the Indiana University Open last weekend and Parks expects her to compete for the win again this weekend.

"I think Jill Scully has a chance to win," she said. "Individually, IU has a couple good runners, Purdue has a couple good runners, but everyday is different. It's certainly anyone's race."

The Cardinals are continuing to prepare to defend their Mid-American Conference championship by facing several top midwestern programs.

"They're outstanding Big Ten teams," Parks said. "It can only help us in conference. I think competing with a nationally ranked team will give us the confidence to compete in the MAC."

So far the Cardinals have won each event they have competed in, starting with the three-way meet at the Butler Open, and the dual meet at the the Indiana University Open.

"We're looking forward to going for the third straight win," Parks said. "It's our biggest task so far."
