CROSS COUNTRY: Ball State runners look to continue success at Indiana

Cardinals had lowest possible point total last week at Butler

After totaling the lowest possible score at the Butler Open lastweekend, Ball State is looking to continue its success at Indianathis weekend.

The Cardinals will head to Bloomington to take on the No. 27Hoosiers, among other teams. While repeating the domination of lastweekend is unlikely, coach Sue Parks is optimistic about theiroverall chances.

"We feel that if we run well we should have a shot at beingcompetitive," Parks said.

Jill Scully won the Butler Open, 40 seconds ahead of SarahHuddleston. It was the second year in a row Scully had won themeet, and for her efforts she was named the Mid-AmericanConference's Runner of the Week.

"She should have a chance (to win this week)," Parks said. "Itwill be a little tougher this week. We have a schedule built in away so every week it's a little bit harder."

While the Cardinals had little problem with Butler and IPFW,Parks has noted a few areas where she hopes to improve thisweekend.

"We did a nice job of keeping the pack close anytime we can haveour top five runners within a minute of each other," she said. "Weneed to work on closing the gap behind Jill a little bit."

The four runners following Scully were separated by only 11seconds. It was over a minute before the next Cardinal was able tofinish, in 15th place.

In order to stay with Indiana, Parks says the team must staytogether as a pack.

"We need to keep the pack tight and compete with themperson-to-person," she said. "We have to get together and run wellif we even want to have a chance."

This stop is the second in the Cards' campaign to repeat as MACchampions. Following this weekend the Cards have three more meetsbefore the MAC Championships.

"I'm looking forward to it," Parks said. "I hope to seeimprovement from last week."
