Students will have the opportunity to have more than 130employers searching for them for a change at the Fall Career Fairfrom 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Worthen Arena.
The career fair is sponsored by the Ball State Career Center,Cintas and the Ball State Alumni Association.
The Fall Career Fair gives students the chance to discuss careeropportunities with employers and graduate schools, Sheila Spisak,associate director at the Career Center, said.
A common misconception that students have had of the career fairis that it is only for business majors, Spisak said. However, manyattending businesses are looking for students of any major.
Students' majors are not as important as showing initiative,openness to ideas, willingness to work hard and enthusiasm, ConnieRedmon, the regional recruiter for The Washington Center, said. TheWashington Center helps students find internship opportunities inthe Washington D.C. area.
Cameron Hough, director of recruiting for Northwestern MutualFinancial Network, said her ideal candidate would be a person withtwo completed academic years, strong interpersonal skills,self-motivated and with a strong work ethic.
While at the Fall Career Fair, Spisak said students shouldcollect business cards. Students should also ask employersquestions about their organization and what career opportunitiesthey are offering, she said.
Parrish Peachtree, regional sales coordinator for AFLAC, saidhis advice for students would be to go to the career fair and talkto a lot of different companies. He said it is good to research thecompany before the career fair.
