Activist to speak about animal community

Animal-lovers have a chance to meet someone who has theexperience and knowledge to answer questions about how to make adifference in the animal community.

Chris Bedford, National Campaign Coordinator for the HumaneSociety of the United States (HSUS) will speak at 4 p.m. Thursdayin Cardinal Hall A in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Bedford will speak as part of the Ball State FreshmanConnections program. His presentation, "A Humane Perspective onAnimals and Food," is one of several opportunities students have todiscuss the issues presented in the freshman common book, "FastFood Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal" by EricSchlosser.

Freshmen have the opportunity to hear firsthand from Bedford howthey can take what they've learned in the book and make it areality.

Bedford has fought for the welfare of animals, the environmentand other social justice movements for more than 30 years.

As a filmmaker, Bedford has produced five dozen films, includingan award-winning PBS series entitled "Inside Your Schools."

HSUS has been campaigning for animal rights since it was foundedin 1954 and is the world's largest animal protection foundation.Bedford is directing its "Care 4 Iowa Campaign" and many otheractivities.
