WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALLCardinals receive academic honor for high GPA

The Ball State women's volleyball team is one of five Mid-American Conference schools and 46 NCAA Division I to be awarded for its academic success.

The team received the 2003-04 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the first time. The award was first given in 1992-93.

To be honored, the team must have a cumulative 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Eleven Cardinals posted a 3.44 GPA last academic year.

Sophomore Angie Parrell, who has a 3.967 GPA which included a 4.0 fall semester, paced the team. Other Cardinals with top GPA's during the 2003-04 year were juniors Sarah Obras (3.793), Stephanie Bacan (3.754) and Kristin Westhof (3.545), alumna Meredith Fancher (3.688), sophomore Kirby Gibson (3.588) and senior Stephanie Keller (3.587).
