Alumnus takes advantage of court time

Phil Eatherton is making the most of the short amount of playingtime he has received in the Olympic games. Eatherton, a Ball Statealumnus, has only played in three games, including the team's onlytwo losses.

Eatherton got one start in the Olympics, in the opener againstItaly. He started in the 3-1 loss in place of Ryan Millar, who satout due to an ankle injury. He put up some impressive stats in theopener, going 5/9 in attacks and 2/11 in blocks.

Eatherton didn't play in the second game, a 3-0 win over theNetherlands, saw limited playing time in the 3-1 loss to Russia,and went 1/1 in attacks.

Eatherton sat out again during the 3-1 win against Austria, butagain saw limited playing time against Brazil. In the latest gamehe went 1/3 in attacks, 1/4 in blocks, and blanked all other majorstatistics.

Overall, Eatherton has an impressive 7/13 attack record for a46.15% percentage, which would place him second on the team (behindLloy Ball, also from Indiana) and among the better players in thegames.

Eatherton spent five years at Ball State University and his namelitters the record book. He is ranked first in total blocks andblock assists, second in career hitting percentage, fifth in kills,kills-per-game, and and sixth in blocks-per-game. He is the thirdOlympian from Ball State and the first since 1976.
