SOFTBALL Team will look to junior college recruits

The Ball State University softball team signed two junior college recruits in hopes that they will make an immediate impact next season.

Kathryn Pilger and Megan Shriver will join a young team that had six freshmen and five sophomores on last year's team.

They will help fill the void of two All-Mid-American Conference players who graduated last season. Seniors Kris Burdine and Britni Clarke were named first team and second team All-MAC, respectively.

Pilger played two seasons at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa where she spent time at first base and pitcher. Her team went 60-9 last season and finished in fourth place at the junior college national tournament.

Shriver spent the previous two seasons at Lake Michigan College where she played outfield. She was named All-Conference player this past season and helped her team finish third in its conference.

"We wanted to bring in a couple [of] junior college players for the experience factor," head coach Terri Laux said. "In addition, we were looking for athletes who could contribute right away both offensively and defensively and also provide leadership on and off the field.

"Both Kathryn and Megan will immediately fill some gaps for us."002,$'softballbreif7.15Macintosh HD002SORT +â-ì+â-ä2AUDT
