TRACK Members honored for academic success

Two members of the men's track and field team and one women's track and field member have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.

Junior Tom Green, who competed in the javelin throw this season, has a 3.369 grade point average as a landscape architecture major. He had one first place finish this season in the javelin when he threw 196 feet, 6 inches at the Notre Dame Invitational.

Senior Paul Panning is a management and information systems major with a 3.42 GPA. Panning recently qualified for the NCAA Championships in the pole vault with his 17 feet, 11 inch vault at regionals. He ranks seventh in the nation going into the championships, which will be held in Austin, Texas June 9-12.

Sophomore Jill Scully owns a 3.405 GPA as a mathematics major. She competed in the 5,000-meter run and had Ball State's third-fastest time ever at the Mt. SAC Relays. Her time of 16:49.17 qualified her for the NCAA Regionals, where she finished 13th.

She has also posted the school's fifth-fastest time in the 3,000-meter run and the second-fastest time in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs.

Scully also competed in the 10,000-meter run for the first time in her career at the MAC Championships and finished in second place.
