Kent State's women, Miami's men honored

Ball State finished sixth in the race for overall on field performance in the Mid-American Conference on both the men's and women's side this year.

Miami University won the Reese Trophy, which is given for overall athletic achievement on the men's side, while Kent State University won the Jacoby Trophy, given for overall athletic achievement on the women's side.

Kent State was finally able to overcome the Cardinals, who had won the Jacoby Trophy every year since the 1999-2000 school year with Kent State finishing as the runner-up each of those years. The last time the Ball State men's teams were awarded with the Reese Trophy was in 1997-1998.

The women's cross country team was the only team at Ball State to win a MAC Championship this year. On the men's side, the best finish came from the tennis team, which finished in second place during the regular season.

The Reese Trophy, which was first presented in 1958, has been awarded to Miami 22 times. Ball State has won the trophy four times.

By capturing the Jacoby Trophy, Kent State is now tied with Ball State for the team that has been awarded the trophy the most. Both teams have earned the award five times since it was first given in 1983.
