Two members of the Ball State baseball team were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Junior pitcher Michael Hale was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 35th round and sophomore first baseman Brad Miller was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 49th round.
If either of the two decide to sign with their respective team, they will not return next season to compete for Ball State. However, if they do not sign, then they can still return next season and will be eligible for next year's draft.
Hale had the best ERA on the team this season at 1.93. He earned a 2-2 record after pitching in 37.1 innings allowing only nine runs, eight of them earned. He had a career-high four strikeouts in one game and a total of 35 on the season.
The Yankees draft picks were dominated by pitchers, 30 of the 52 New York picks were pitchers.
Miller led the Cardinals in batting this past season, getting 79 hits and posting a .366 batting average. He also had a team-high 15 home runs and was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team.
With these two picks, head coach Greg Beals has now coached seven draftees in his first two seasons.
