BASEBALL No. 1 draft pick will play in Futures game

The Mid-American Conference's first-ever top pick will play in the Major League All-Star Futures game in Houston on Sunday, July 11.

Bryan Bullington was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the first pick in the 2002 draft, and has been playing in farm teams ever since. After going 13-5 while playing in Hickory and Lynchburg, the former Ball State standout is now playing in Altoona for the Pirates AA team.

"I found out, I guess it was Monday, to play in Houston before the All-Star game and that will be nice," Bullington said. "It'll be good to get some airtime."

Bullington will team up with some of the best prospect players from around the United States to face the world team on ESPN2. Bullingon, who is 5-3 with a 4.11 ERA, says the Futures game will give him a good chance to recharge.

"Getting to the Futures game is just the kind of thing I need right now," he said. "It's a good chance to re-charge the battery so to speak, it's a good reminder that you're not that far away from the ultimate goal."

After the game the Pirate prospect and Ball State alumnus will continue to work on getting to the major leagues.

"I'm off to a decent start," he said. "I'm feeling pretty good about it. Everything's starting to come together."
