MEN'S BASKETBALL Buckley receives one year contract extension

Ball State men's basketball head coach, Tim Buckley, has been granted a one-year contract extension through 2008-2009.

Buckley signed a three-year extension in 2002 and because of an agreement set forth in that contract Buckley was awarded his current extension.

His previous contract set three goals that, if accomplished, would grant him an automatic extension.

The goals were a third-place finish or better in the Mid-American Conference West Division, participation in either the NCAA Tournament or NIT either during the contract year or at least once in the previous two years, and an average cumulative grade-point average of all 13 scholarship student-athletes above 2.4 for the fall semester.

"All three of those are things that obviously you would say, 'Hey, if we can achieve those things, then we're doing the right thing and the coach should be rewarded for that," athletic director Bubba Cunningham said.

Buckley has accumulated a 68-56 overall record in his four seasons at Ball State, including a 41-31 MAC record.

This past season the Cardinals made a quarterfinal appearance in the MAC Tournament after finishing third in the MAC West behind Western Michigan and Toledo.

In 2001-2002 Buckley led the Cards to a berth in the NIT and won three games to advance to the Elite Eight before being eliminated.
