I am shocked and greatly bothered by the decision to offer a contract extension to Tim Buckley. We have had two consecutive losing seasons, 12 players leave the team with eligibility remaining, attendance decreases and no NCAA tournaments in his four seasons. If we can equate a .500 season to earning a 'C' in a course, two consecutive semesters under a 2.0 (C average) will lead to a student being dismissed from the university for poor performance but two consecutive losing seasons "earns" a contract extension for the coach. At UNC, they fired their coach for two consecutive losing seasons and while I am not ready to call for Mr. Buckley's dismissal, rewarding losing seasons makes no sense: Where is the reward for success if failure is so sweet? As for the good character and grades of the players, I commend them, their parents and those who teach them in the academic realm for that success, but I find it difficult to attribute academic success to an athletic coach.
