Charges dismissed against juvenile

The state dismissed murder charges Tuesday against the juvenile arrested in connection with the shooting death of Ball State student Karl Harford, according to the Delaware County prosecutor.

Prosecutor Richard Reed would not comment on why the state had dropped the charges.

However, the 15-year-old juvenile will face two counts of theft as a minor, said Debbie Biby, court recorder for the juvenile court.

The juvenile, along with Damien Sanders, 22, and Brandon Patterson, 18, was arrested in March. Muncie police said Harford was giving the trio a ride home from a party when they stole $2 from Harford and shot him once in the head.

The juvenile is still being held in the Youth Oppurtunity Center, and the first fact-finding hearing will be June 2, Biby said.
