Ball State's softball doubleheader home opener was postponed onThursday due to unplayable field conditions.
The Cardinals (6-19) and Purdue will now play a single gameTuesday, April 13 at 4 p.m. at the Ball State Softball Complex.This weekend, the Cardinals travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to playEastern Michigan three times. Saturday, the two square off twice,and finish the weekend with a game on Sunday. The three games willbe the first opportunity for the Cardinals to see where they're atagainst MAC competition.
The Eagles are 9-12 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-AmericanConference. Their game with Dayton on Thursday was also postponed.Against Northern Illinois last weekend, the Eagles fell in two ofthree games. Deanna Wisnewski led the Eagles in the third game withthree of the team's eight hits and one RBI, but Eastern Michiganfell short, 4-2.
For the season, Nikki Denman leads the team with a .359 battingaverage in 21 games. She also leads the team in earned run averagewith a 1.12 ERA.
With the delay against Purdue, Ball State pitcher Quincy Duranwill now make her return over the weekend. She was previouslyscheduled to return against Purdue, although coach Terri Lauxwasn't sure how much Duran would pitch.
The Cardinals need to find consistency on both sides of theball, Laux said.
"We're not playing consistently at all. That's been a bigproblem for us," she said. "It's a matter of finding a way to playhard every day, because we don't do that."
Laux believes the upperclassmen of the team must supplyleadership in order for the season to be turned around.
"We're not necessarily getting the type (of leadership) we need.Everybody has to buy into some of the priorities we set as far asbeing consistent and understanding that the little things do matter(on both sides of the field)," she said. "When we win, it's goingto be as a team. It's not going to be one person doing it."
