LETTER: Letter headline misrepresented sorority sisters

Dear Editor,

I am deeply offended by the title the Daily News staff chose for Nicole Guenzel's April 21, Letter to the Editor "Alpha Chi's do more than drink." The women of Alpha Chi Omega represent more than the stereotypical sorority woman. We received the national Chapter of Excellence Award for the fifth year in a row, have been No. 1 in sorority grades and host two of the largest philanthropic events on campus. By stating, "Alpha Chi's do more than drink," it is implied that all the women of our chapter do consume alcohol, when this is not true. We are a chapter of respectable, outstanding women who deserve fair representation. The fact that the Daily News has cast a negative shadow on our name is insulting and uncalled for. Our chapter strives for excellence, not for alcohol. When first examined, one would assume by the headline the article is negative,

and not congratulating us on raising $5,000 for charity. When other student groups on campus host successful events, their headlines do not read, "At least they were not drunk." The Daily News' stereotypical treatment of greeks is unethical and in poor journalistic interest. In the future I would hope the Daily News would use more tact and better judgment when selecting headlines for print.
