The women's golf team shot scores of 322 and 320 to finish 10th at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., over the weekend.
James Madison won the event by shooting a two-day total of 618.
For the third straight tournament to start the season, sophomore Carmen Bodine led the way for the Cardinals. Bodine opened with a 76 in the first round, but shot an 82 on Sunday to tie for 25th overall.
Also for the third straight meet, Bodine shot an opening round in the 70s only to shoot in the 80s the last round.
"I'm very disappointed," she said. "I can't seem to shoot two low rounds in a row."
The reason for her higher score the second day in Virginia had to do with tougher conditions and being fatigued from the previous week's trip to Florida, Bodine said.
"The conditions were a lot harder on the second day," Bodine said. "It was windy, colder and I was a little tired."
Senior Lisa Robertson shot a pair of 80s to tied for 33rd. Sophomore Ali Meyer shot a team-low 78 on Sunday to tie with Robertson for a two day score of 160 (82-78). Katie Sundberg tied for 68th (84-83) and Amber Uphaus bounced back well on Sunday to shoot 80 and finish tied for 86th (91-80).
The Cards finished fourth out of the five Mid-American Conference schools that competed in the William & Mary Invitational. Ball State bettered Bowling Green, who finished 11th, by eight stokes.
Although the Cards have yet to finish better than 10th in their first three tournaments, Bodine feels the team is progressing.
"We just keep improving each time we play," she said. "It's hard for everyone to shoot well here early in the season, but the more we play the better we will do."
