OUR VIEW Innocent until proven guilty

AT ISSUE: Campus, community should remember that though someone is arrested, they have yet to be convicted

Muncie Police arrested two individuals Monday evening in connection with the murder of Ball State sophomore Karl Harford. One arrest was for murder and armed robbery, the other for assisting a criminal.

Though this might seem to bring closure, the investigation is still in progress. Any information regarding the death of Karl Harford is still imperative to this investigation, regardless of these arrests. Those who might know something about the case should contact authorities as soon as possible to share their information.

The individuals arrested have not been convicted for Harford's death. This does not question the decisions of the Muncie Police but should serve as a reminder that there is a reason the U.S. judicial system includes a trial process.

Harford's murder came as a shock to Ball State and the Muncie community.

Many would prefer to rest easy in believing this case is closed, but Harford's family, friends and the community do not have that luxury.

It is common when someone is arrested to assume that person committed the crime. People are often deemed guilty by society long before their day in court.

In the U.S. judicial process, information and time are two crucial components. Those who know anything about Harford's death need to share their knowledge. Those who are looking to find who to blame for Harford's murder must be patient.
