MEN'S TENNIS Baccarani takes Player of the Week honors

Ball State sophomore Matt Baccarani was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, the second time he has been honored this year and the third time in his career.

Baccarani, who has been the Cardinals' No. 1 singles player in all but one match this season, improved his record to 10-11 (including fall play) with a pair of victories over the weekend, including one over No. 80-ranked Luis Haddock of Notre Dame. Baccarani, the 2003 MAC Newcomer of the Year and a First-Team All-MAC selection, has also teamed with Patrick Thompson for a 15-10 record in doubles play.

Ball State (6-11, 1-0 MAC) swept Toledo in its conference opener Saturday before falling 4-3 to Notre Dame. The Cardinals play host to Wright State on Thursday.
