GYMNASTICS Cards place seventh at MAC Championship

Despite the ninth-best all-around in school history by freshman Jenna Tarkington, the Ball State gymnastics team finished seventh at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Cardinals scored a 193.050, their third straight score above 193 to finish the season.

Tarkington was named to the All-MAC First Team after she recorded the second-best score on vault in school history (9.950) to tie for first overall. She also recorded a career-high 9.750 on bars.

Central Michigan repeated as MAC champions after setting a new conference record score of 197.525.

The Cardinals posted a season-best 49.150 on floor, a 48.000 on vault, a 47.900 on bars and a 48.000 on beam.

Tarkington was not the only gymnast to record a career-high at the MAC Championships. Senior Courtney Vojtasek set a career-high 9.900 on floor.

She also led BSU on bars (9.825) and beam (9.750) and finished 12th overall in the all-around with a 38.600.

Fellow senior Carrie Groves notched a career-best 9.850 on floor.

Freshmen Kelly Watson and Kaitlyn Wills each recorded career-highs on two events. Watson posted a career-high 9.750 on bars and tied her career-best on vault (9.750). Wills scored a career-best 9.850 on floor and also tied her career-high on vault (9.650).
